If you’re not afraid of hard work, we are always in need of help maintaining our paths – there’s always somewhere that needs a fresh load of gravel!
Do you have a green thumb? For those with horticultural experience, there are various native plants we need propagated for our hungry critters!
If you have your own whipper snipper and would like to help us keep the grass down in and around the Sanctuary, we’d like to hear from you!
Please note this role has no involvement with animals apart from our free-roaming kangaroos.
Register your interest here so we can arrange an induction. Once this is completed, you can volunteer as little or as often as you want!
If you would like to volunteer as a group for team building, corporate social responsibility or with a school group, Bonorong is happy to accept groups of volunteers to help with basic grounds maintenance.

Please note: Due to insurance the minimum age for volunteering is 15 years.
We’re always looking for volunteers for our wildlife rescue program. Once trained and registered, you’ll receive messages about wildlife in need in your area.
If you have time, you can respond to the message and help out. If not, you can simply ignore the message. This gives you the flexibility to volunteer when you can.
We are always on the lookout for volunteer vets and vet nurses. Veterinarians must hold current registration to practice within Tasmania and nurses must possess a minimum Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing qualification. To express your interest, complete the form here.
Our new wildlife hospital is part of Bonorong’s flagship ‘Project RECAP’, and has been designed to significantly increase our capacity to treat injured and orphaned wildlife. The new building will be home to those involved in the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife, but it also creates a range of new and exciting opportunities for volunteers looking to make a direct contribution to the health and wellbeing of our precious wildlife.
Hospital Volunteers will play a key supporting role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the wildlife hospital, working under the direction of our vets and vet nurses to support clinical operations. Common tasks will include cleaning and disinfection, maintaining a safe and tidy workspace, assisting the duty nurse to prepare for medical procedures and administrative tasks including the maintenance of detailed patient records.
Volunteers with experience in frontline or allied healthcare – either animal or human – are encouraged to apply as we maintain very high standards in hygiene and infection control and prior experience would be an advantage. Applicants must be comfortable working in a busy, emergency medicine environment which is also permanently on display to the general public.

Students of veterinary medicine or veterinary nursing are welcome to apply for hospital volunteering, but should note that this opportunity will not provide you with the learning or hands-on experience that is typically associated with a clinical placement and does not constitute a pathway to a career in the animal care industry.
Fourth and final year students of veterinary science wishing to secure a clinical placement as part of their course of study, are encouraged to apply for a placement through our Veterinary Student Clinical Placement Program. This program is only available to students from participating Australian universities, please contact us for more information.
This volunteering option is ideal for support organisations or people who would like to volunteer at Bonorong with their support worker.
Tasks involved are generally related to general grounds maintenance. There is no direct contact with animals. Volunteer slots typically run for about 3 hours.
