Careers & Volunteering
Career Opportunities
Bonorong is very lucky to have a body of long-term, experienced staff which means that positions do not become available very often. However, there are other options for those wishing to become part of the Bonorong team, even if only for a short while.
When we do have positions available within the Sanctuary, we advertise them on our Facebook page.
Keep an eye out - they come up rarely and often close quickly!
Note: We do not keep resumes on file.
volunteering
Whether you are volunteering alone or in a group, come once or return often, there are plenty of jobs to go around in our Sanctuary! Please see below the different options available.
Please note there is no volunteer accommodation at Bonorong.

Whether it’s raking on the grass with the kangaroos or weeding our garden beds, this category is a great place to start your volunteering journey with us!
If you have your own whipper snipper and would like to help us keep the grass down in and around the Sanctuary, we’d like to hear from you too!
We’d also love to chat to you if you have a specific skill such as an electrician, carpenter, excavator operator, plumber… As we are constantly expanding the Sanctuary and adding new buildings and enclosures, we almost always have a need for someone with a particular skill!
General handyman skills are also welcome.
Please note there is no involvement with animals apart from our free-roaming kangaroos.
Please register your interest here so we can arrange an induction. Once this is completed, you can volunteer as little or as much time as you want!

We're always looking for volunteers for our wildlife rescue program! Once trained and registered, you'll receive messages about wildlife in need in your area.
If you have time, you can respond to the message and help out. If not - you can simply ignore the message. This gives you the flexibility to volunteer when you can.

OPEN FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Our new wildlife hospital is part of Bonorong's flagship 'Project RECAP', and has been designed to significantly increase our capacity to treat injured and orphaned wildlife.
The new building will be home to those involved in the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife, but it also creates a range of new and exciting opportunities for volunteers looking to make a direct contribution to the health and wellbeing of our precious wildlife.
Hospital Volunteers will play a key supporting role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the wildlife hospital, working under the direction of our vets and vet nurses to support clinical operations. Common tasks will include cleaning and disinfection, maintaining a safe and tidy workspace, assisting the duty nurse to prepare for medical procedures and administrative tasks including the maintenance of detailed patient records.
Volunteers with experience in frontline or allied healthcare - either animal or human - are encouraged to apply as we maintain very high standards in hygiene and infection control and prior experience would be an advantage. Applicants must be comfortable working in a busy, emergency medicine environment which is also permanently on display to the general public.
To express your interest, complete the form here.
Vet Students
Students of veterinary medicine or veterinary nursing are welcome to apply for hospital volunteering, but should note that this opportunity will not provide you with the learning or hands-on experience that is typically associated with a clinical placement and does not constitute a pathway to a career in the animal care industry.
We do offer placements for veterinary students in their final year - more information can be found here.
Qualified Vets and Vet Nurses
We are currently unable to accept qualified volunteer vets and vet nurses but may have limited availability in the future.
